The rules
- Each round shows one survey prompt, such as “Name something people lose all the time”.
- You have 15 seconds to type a single answer.
- Every prompt has a board of 9 answers, ranked by how many people give them. Where your answer sits decides its tier and its points.
- Points lift you: from a pond on the forest floor, through the canopy, into the sky.
- A Classic climb is 7 prompts. The maximum is 700 points, which reaches 14 km.
- An answer that does not fit is turned away with no penalty except the time you spent. A pass or timeout scores 0.
It is a survey game, not a quiz. Keys, phone and glasses are all reasonable answers to “Name something people lose all the time”, but only one of them is #1 on the board, and the closer you get to it, the higher you rise. Knowing obscure facts does not help: the clever answer is the one that scores least.
Noillirk scoring: the six tiers
Tap a tier to see what earns it, then add up a climb.
-
Sky High: the number one answer (board place #1).
-
Jet Stream: places 2 to 4 on the board (board place #2–#4).
-
Cloud Nine: places 5 to 9 on the board (board place #5–#9).
-
Kite: off the board, but a few people gave it (not on the 9-answer board).
-
Treetop: hardly anyone gave it (not on the 9-answer board).
-
Grounded: nobody else gave it (not on the 9-answer board).
Add up a climb
Pick the tier you reached on each of the 7 prompts. A pass or timeout scores 0.
448 / 700 points
| Tier | Points | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Sky High | 100 | The number one answer |
| Jet Stream | 64 | Places 2 to 4 on the board |
| Cloud Nine | 32 | Places 5 to 9 on the board |
| Kite | 16 | Off the board, but a few people gave it |
| Treetop | 8 | Hardly anyone gave it |
| Grounded | 4 | Nobody else gave it |
Two things follow from the table. First, the gap between #1 and #2 is big (100 vs 64), so the top answer is worth chasing. Second, an off-board answer can never reach Cloud Nine, however common it feels to you. One Sky High answer is worth as much as 25 Grounded ones.
For scale: a climb passes the height of Larry Walters’s 1982 lawn-chair balloon flight (about 4,900 m) at about 380 points.
Daily, Classic and Endless
The start screen has three tabs, plus a multiplayer button.
| Mode | On the start screen | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | The same 7 prompts for everyone, 15 seconds each, one try a day | Each Daily is numbered (“The Daily Climb #23” on October 19, 2026). Everyone gets the same seven prompts, so it is the mode to compare with friends. |
| Classic | 7 prompts, 15 seconds each, the more common your answer the higher you climb | No daily cap: refresh for another seven prompts drawn from thousands. A perfect climb is 700 points and 14 km. |
| Endless | Prompts until your balloons are gone, 15 seconds each, only a miss pops one | You start with 3 balloons. A miss (time runs out without an accepted answer, or you pass) pops one; any accepted answer keeps them; every Sky High answer wins a popped one back. Only Endless climbs past 100 km into space, through 52 zones. |
Multiplayer
Choose Play multiplayer to join a live room (each seats 30) or open a private room and share its 6-digit code. The whole room answers the same prompt on the same 15-second clock, then sees every answer and its points side by side. Whoever has climbed highest after the last prompt wins. There is no host and no sign-up.
Tips: how to find the most common answer
-
Say your first three answers to yourself
The top answer is almost always among the first few that come to mind. Get them all out before you pick one.
-
Picture a hundred strangers
Not your friends, your job or your country’s quirks. Ask which of your three a hundred ordinary people would say most.
-
Use the general word
Keys, not car keys. Pizza, not pepperoni pizza. The broad word collects every variant the crowd types.
-
Answer in time
A refused or missing answer scores nothing. A common answer given in time beats a perfect one given too late, and speed itself earns nothing extra.
-
Break ties with a child or a grandparent
When two answers feel equally obvious, pick the one you would hear from a child or a grandparent. The clever answer scores least.
Why the first answer that comes to mind is usually common but not always #1: your own life leaks into it. A driver thinks of car keys, a parent of a lost sock. Answer as the average person, not as yourself.
Noillirk rules FAQ
Does answering faster score more in Noillirk?
No. The 15-second clock is only a deadline. A common answer given in time beats a perfect one that is still in your head when time runs out.
What happens if Noillirk turns my answer away?
Nothing beyond the seconds you spent typing it. An answer that does not fit the prompt is refused with no penalty, so try another while the clock runs. A pass or a timeout scores 0.
Can an answer that is not on the board still score well?
Only up to a point. The board holds 9 answers; anything off it lands on Kite (16), Treetop (8) or Grounded (4), depending on how many people would give it. Cloud Nine and above need a place on the board.
How do I reach space in Noillirk?
Only in Endless. A perfect Classic climb tops out at 14 km, inside the weather; space begins at 100 km. Endless keeps going past the Moon and the planets through 52 zones.
